Healthcare

As healthcare providers, parents have indicated that they look to you as a trusted institution for information on early childhood education. As part of daily practice, healthcare providers can promote the "5 Rs" of early education: reading together as a daily family activity; rhyming, playing and cuddling together often; routine and regular times for meals, play and sleep which help children know what they can expect and what is expected from the; praise as reward for everyday successes; and reciprocal and nurturing relationships which are the foundation of healthy child development. Healthcare providers can integrate literacy promotion into their practices toward this end (from the American Academy of Pediatrics).

Without a "Healthy Beginning" children will find being Ready for School difficult. We are committed to partnering with the healthcare community by:

  • Engaging and informing the healthcare community regarding the importance of the influence on school readiness
  • Assist healthcare professionals with appropriate assessment tools in order to identify early those children who are experiencing delays
  • Ensure that all children 0 to 5 have a medical home by creating a stronger system of referral, accountability and support provided by Health Centers and physician groups
  • Ensure that a connection is made to Ready for School services at birth for all children born in the Holland/Zeeland community
