School

Since 2008 area school districts have come together and agreed to use the "Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills" (DIBELS) as the consistent tool to screen incoming kindergartens for readiness. This process screens a child's letter and number recognition as they enter kindergarten. Every year since 2008 area incoming kindergarteners have been screened. In 2010, 44% of children in the Holland/Zeeland community were at the benchmark level.

In addition to the (DIBELS) area schools as part of the kindergarten enrollment process give every parent a survey. The survey provides yearly input on the number of children that are ready, the obstacles that parents have faced obtaining services and the kind of services they believe they would benefit from. This information then becomes the road map for the coming year and the measuring tool by which  Ready for  School will measure progress. Our goal is that by 2015 75% of our children will meet bench mark criteria for readiness.

Ready for School in partnership with area schools is committed to building bridges with early childhood professionals that lead to a seamless transition from the pre-k experience to kindergarten and beyond.
